I don't know if it is a documentation error for I've not read it yet.
Maybe the best way is to put a shortcut to idle in the main directory where the
python is.

Yes. I downloaded the separate chm file and double clicked on the file. There
is no entry on the start menu. The file included in the python installer is OK.
