I assumed when specifying USE_SYSTRACE=Yes it uses systrace
for every step of the build. Apparently this is only true
for /bin/sh /usr/bin/env /usr/bin/make and gmake.

I'm trying to see if I can go through the exercise of
building/updating a port. I'm using OBSD 3.7. The port
I'm looking at is graphics/gd. I'm trying to see if I
can update it to the latest 2.0.33 out since last year.
The current version in the ports tree is quite old 1.8.3.
