Would it be possible to do this with popup applets[1] too, such as Kickoff?
Currently there are some pixels between between the left screen edge and

I think the thing to do is just to implement the popup now and play with the
behaviour later. From a personal point of view I like interaction on mouse-
over and losing the tooltip would not bother me.
