yes - but its heavy to do (which ever way you do it).
basically you need to either call a commandline php script
via exec() (or something similar) e.g.
exec('php /path/2/your/script.php'); // rea

I agree at all! Thats my opinion, and i don't use global variables at all.
The problem is, other people do. And if I need to use their code I must
include it.
