You may also want to look into dbmail (dbmail.org), which is a mail
server that uses Postgres or Mysql as it's repository. I haven't played
with it yet, but I would think you would be able to query the database
like any other database you create.

I am no expert in email, but with a little help, I figured out how to
use procmail to pipe email into a perl script and work with the data
from the email in that script. So I am pretty sure it is possible using
php as well.
