Sorry for the late response, I've just gotten the chance to test this as well.
Looks and works great, seems intuitive. I love the popup notification (as well
as the ability to choose not to see it again next time). I also experienced a
short delay on the Mac client, though the delay was only
Seems to work fine Jonathan. I had no trouble with the notification lagging.

Changes include slightly better artwork, re-repositioning of the

Thus far I'm in favor of the eye icon. Lately I've been using the
Unreal Developers Kit a lot for classwork, and there is even a 8x8 or
so eye icon that is still legible, though most of the eye icons are
larger. None have lashes, just the arcs and iris dot.
Once the icon is set, people will get u

What would directly tell people what the slider does is a ground outline

Agreed regarding the magnifying glass icon - it's used both in SL and in some
browsers as an icon representing Search.
The problem with using a 1 tree/many trees approach is that a) that's already
used to denote zoom, not viewing distance, and b) that type of display works

You're right. Suggestion withdrawn.

Use a tooltip for the text, and have it trigger as soon as the slider is
interacted with, and persist for several seconds after. That way,
there's informational text that follows the mouse cursor from the moment
the user starts interacting with it, until they stop - and several
seconds more.

While testing the updated graphic I've been looking at the cautionary
wording on the slider and am not happy with it. There is no good way
to align the text so it looks nice in all languages and the width of
the slider would have to be wide enough to support the longest word in
whatever language t

At the earliest stages, they're directed by other residents to click the

Love OO's idea of the labels - that should do a lot to offset Josh's, very
reasonable, concerns.
Also - maybe move it the other side of the 'Lindens' fields to show that it
isn't just another audio/media setting.

I too am a bit worried that novice viewer users will hurt themselves
with this slider in an easily accessible place.
How about tying the presence of the control to only show when the
Advanced menu has been enabled (in addition or instead of the warning
labels Joshua has suggested)?

If you like Snowglobe v1, then why aren't you using

It's been worked on hard to make it entirely Viewer 2 engine

Those binoculars were just something I picked up quickly not expecting
they would be a permanent solution.
Later I experimented with a few eyes, but 1) the color has to work in
shades of grey and 2) has to be scaled down to 16px*16px, so oblong
shapes don't fare very well.

I think the icon may be less intuitive. Without taking a few minutes or
knowing it was probably some kind of eye, I don't know that I would have
figured it out (as it was, it took me a little while). Jonathan's
binoculars (if done in white against the UI bgnd) ore maybe the inverse of
this image.
Just knocked this up by modding the xml you did - see what you think Jonathan.

It's a little disturbing to me that someone within LL would not see this as
