Liu and David: Thank you very much for your explanations. I discovered that msys bash transliterates file paths just yesterday and was feeling kind of sheepish. I did some more investigation and I now think that the msys/mingw cross compilers, for example: /opt/bin/i686-w64-mingw32-gcc.exe /o
