my understanding is gcc uses size_t for both. I think there used ot be a %I or something like that for size_type, but not sure what it is now, since I have forgotten, and %I by itself seems to require a number of bits like %I64u. my memory is fuzzy. thanks.   - Jim Michaels jmich...
