The list is locked. That's why the config_list and synch_members hang.
They're waiting on the lock. And control-Zing them to the background
just exacerbates the situation

And do you leave it in the background after that or what?

Apologies for the extra post, but some useful extra information.
sync_members does not work either.

Hi there,
Anyone know why the following command doesn't finish? It just hangs until I
escape with ctrl+Z
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailman]# bin/config_list -i
vawupdate/scripts/carers.config.txt

Configuration of other lists with similar configuration files works fine.
This seems to be an inter

That's the location for the as-shipped default templates, which will
get over-written on the next re-install.

The list specific stuff would be under the /usr/local/mailman/lists
directory. So, for example, it might be

You are welcome and I am surprised that this has not been discussed before.
This is something that really deserves a FAQ entry. If I have time
later to do so, I may work one up. If not, and somebody else has
Thanks for the responses on copying customized HTML files.
Dragon was right about the location of customized files:
/usr/local/mailman/lists///. Alas, I don't have the
permissions to write to those dirs, so it's back to cut-and-paste on the web
site.

Kinda miserly of it, isn't it?

The config_list utility doesn't include the "public HTML pages" (most
importantly for me, the "General List Information
Page") as part of the configuration that it copies from one list to another.
Since I have drastically customized my List Info Page, this rather impedes
cloning my lists.
So,
Thanks to Mark and others for getting me unstuck.
All is well, except for one thing: The config_list utility doesn't include
the "public HTML pages" (most importantly, the "General List Information
Page") as part of the configuration that it copies from one list to another.
This provokes three

Hi,
Were migrating from dmail to mailman.
I have a couple of quick questions - if I copy my /private/var/mailman
directory to another location will I be able to use it to restore my listserv
with it if something goes wrong with it?
I have over 300 lists and I need to modify 'generic_nonmembe
Outputting a config then slurping it back in seems to screw something
up,

I have an odd problem with Mailman 2.0.8 that appears to have been going on
for a while. To wit, the config_list program doesn't appear to actually
update a target list. When I run config_list with the -v option, it says
that the specified attributes have been changed, but when I run

I'd like to use "config_list" to transfer list ALPHA's configuration
to a new list BETA. Is this the recommended procedure?
1) bin/config_list -o config.ALPHA ALPHA
2) cp config.ALPHA config.BETA
3) Use an editor to change all occurrences of "ALPHA" in
"config.BETA" to "BETA"
