I have my httpd.conf configured as such for pipermail:
Alias /pipermail/ "/usr/local/mailman/archives/public/"
Options Indexes FollowSymlinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
/usr/local/mailman/bin/check_perms shows NO perm
