The RPM doesn't add sendmail aliases. While you are setting up your new
list, it will tell you to add a bunch of aliases. If you don't do that
you won't be able to send any messages through the list.

I upgraded the department's Solaris box from 2.6->2.8 and forgot to save
the aliases mailman generated for the lists it runs. It's also been so
long since I worked on Mailman that I've forgotten the admin password.

don't require that email confirmation? I've used mailman for many mailing
lists but I still have to use majordomo for automated lists because if this
