Wow, what a cool problem... I think that v 2.1 (once it is out of beta) is for you. You'll be able to move that database into a PostGresSQL database or any database of your choice. I do hope that you are running a SCSI disk subsystem (or better). That will help immensely with resource problems

If you want to change the way that the mailer displays the FROM then you would have to hack the code a bit, either in Mailman or in your MTA.  The name comes from the mailer.  Mailman and your MTA (sendmail, postfix, exim, qmail, etc) merely pass on the name/email address as given. -
