I would expect this is a very standard concern that people have: by default,
all my archives are in chronological order -- which is patently stupid. This
means that new messages accumulate toward the bottom, so on a high-volume
list, you must scroll down the page to see the newest message.

Can you be a little bit more specific? How far into the installation did
you get, which step? What is the error you're getting? We may be able to help
if we know a bit more.

A few people once asked about letting gatewayed newsgroup postings

would appreciate comments on what I've done).
Note that this opens up the possibility of spam: all a spammer has to
do is add a "Newsgroup:" header with the cor

Hi there,
I am trying to get Mailman working on a SuSE 7.3 box, and being a newbie, I

but i'm not sure, is there anywhere I can get installation support, I have

Remember that you are not supposed to change ~mailman/Mailman/Defaults.py.
All the changes should be in ~mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py.
This only matters for when you upgrade, as Mailman will overwrite the file:
Defaults.py, but will leave mm_cfg.py alone.

Should mm_cfg.py be byte-compiled?
I would think not, unless one were prepared to recompile it every time
mm_cfg.py is changed. Is that correct?
(Debian's default install allows one to recompile changed Python source
by running "dpkg-reconfigure mailman", and it will automatically

Of course it is possible to get Mailman working with Iplanet. Read the

For the web part, Iplanet has to have some way of activating a CGI. Setup
the CGI's as described in the INSTALL file. The script alias /mailman/ has
to be setup to go to ~mailma
How can I change the default from chronological order to

Yesterday, with Jon Carnes' help, I made changes to Defaults.py; while this
works for new lists, how do I get those changes to extend to lists that were

Neh! He is talking about the Archives link.
Go to the listinfo page and at the bottom of the first section is a link to
your archives. Since your archives don't exist, the link gives an error.
You should edit out that line to remove the link (or fix the problem with
your archives...)

I am getting archives created under mailman 2.0.8, but none of my

I'm not sure which page you are looking for, but most of the text/html
files mailman uses is found under

I don't see any post about Iplanet I ask some questions about it,
and nobody answer!
Can anyone just tell me if it is possible put this solution to work?

Where do I find the html files that you see when you connect to the list, not
the file that mailman offers you to edit so that the appearance of the
displayed page can be changed, dramatically.
