“Visual Studio” is a ‘modern build environment’. Here in Silicon Valley,
almost nobody uses Windows (especially for software development) anymore.

I am considering building a voice chat application (hopefully cross-platform)
using this library. However, reviewing the build instructions, it seems as
though the library should be built with old build tools (i.e. visual studio
