With such a complex description it would be very helpful if you could provide a
sample file with a few accounts/categories/reports that a) shows the problem
and b) helps us when working on a solution.

When report with splits with expense categories are deselected and grouped by
category they do not show as it should be, but
when grouped by month or week they do show
