Nevermind.. I looked at the account and the opening date was after some of
the transactions.. Changed the date and viola! all is normal. Sorry for
the noise.

I've also saved, exited the program and reopened with no change to the
behavior.
I've searched the doc without a resolution and my google fu is failing with

setup export from the desktop that would configure the android app the same
(categories, accounts etc). It would be good competition to Mint.com and
would be a natural for Ubuntu's phone, tablet images in their repos as well.
