Try turning off system colours
It worked for me. Its not old eyes just poor contrast.

Have you tried to change the colors in KmyMoney Settings... -> Colors ?

Ok I see at some stage in the recent past a patch was put in for the
incorrect indexing of the cell which was causing the crashes
