I can only test them by booting my laptop with my old 12.04 LTS -Disc, which runs ok. By now I have downloaded the 14.04 LTS from another sytem and burned it to a new CD and did a total fresh install after saving all my documents to a flash-drive. It runs perfectly now and of course will make a n

Also: After installing I ran UpdateManager. It downloaded and installed 3.13.0.36-generic Kernel. Did a reboot afterwards and no problems this time. I guess we'll never find out what the problem was. Maybe a faulty update or hardware problem which caused the bug. Thanks again. I appreciate what y
