I have two memory eater programs, one uses 1Mb steps and the other 1Kb steps.
When I run the 1Mb, the oom killer cuts in. When I run the 1Kb program the oom
does not.
If I raise the vm.min_free_kbytes = 17-25 both programs are terminated,

run using up all the swap, and then terminates without a system freeze.

I have not had a repeat of this issue after disabling USB 3 (it disables
3.1 not 3) in my bios. A bug has been raised with asus re the X99 deluxe
v3101 of their bios. Hope this helps someone.

For your issue, this is potentially a bug specific to the 4.5 driver. We
used to poll once a second, which would hide legacy irq issues during
initialization, but 4.5 removed it. A patch[*] to 4.6 removed all use of
legacy interrupts, and should have been applied to 4.5 stable (they were

Found that root cause on my rig was low end GPU and nouveau driver. Vendor
upgraded my GPU and put on Nvidia driver and its been perfect ever since.

After upgrading from kernel 5.15.0-117 to 5.15.0-118, my laptop failed
to suspend when requested. Examination of syslog shows the following
error in the suspend transaction logging:

and so reverted to kernel version 5.15.0-117. I just upgraded to
5.15.0-121 and the problem is gone. I can once again suspend my
