If anyone still has this problem, and the card, please run the command
'lspci'. Find the line that describes the RTL8192EE and note the first
column, which will be something like "04:00.0". This is the bus and
number for the device. Then run 'sudo lspci -s nn:mm -', where hh:mm

Problem has gone away, at least for the new installation.

I have an Asus UX533FD with the same booting problems. I use Ubuntu
18.04 with kernel v5.1.10. I can confirm adding dis_ucode_ldr works.
Thank you @Mark for reporting this bug and the workarounds! I am also
following the issue on Intel's Github repository. I haven't seen a patch
from them.

Tried https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.1.20/ - less
corruption and now the splash screen starts but as soon as splash
transitions to the X display we get an immediate hang.
I believe the 5.0.0 crash occurs before the splash screen starts, so
it's really early in the boot process.

No splash screen, and screen turns off after several seconds and machine is
completely hung after that.
Most probably all of this is a regression in the i915 driver for 32 bit

The system is now running 19.04 x64 desktop. The problem has not changed
in any obvious manner, although reporting of battery status for its
external logitech bluetooth mouse is now correct.

I ran apt update followed by apt dist-upgrade on my ubuntu 19.
Here is the output of my lsb_release -rd
