Here are my findings with that kernel:
- My network connections don't work anymore. Could be a side effect of
something else so I'll ignore it.
- Chrome and Chromium do pick up the device now. With (offline) Hangouts in
Chrome, "Play test sound" doesn't play any audio. Chromium does play it thro
ok, i will do this and let you know..

on the Artful image, it doesn't need to change any settings, the adapter is

I am seriously confused.
As requested, I tested out a 4.14-rc - actually, I tested -rc2 since
that had come out - and the problem was present - audio playback would
freeze after around 40-50 seconds.
Then I went back to various 4.13 versions and attempted to get the start
