Before installation of my current kernel, I was running Windows 10. I
was running Ubuntu 14.04 TLS in a VM. I never attempted to use the
webcam in that environment. The issue was intermittent in the host OS.

I began to have problems one or two days ago before I performed an
update today.
The problems were in the form of error notice dialog bubbles that appeared
during normal use.
I spent time yesterday working on spreadsheets, both online (Google) and
locally (LibreOffice).
I don't remember the details
This does not affect curtin, rather it's a bug in dm_crypt, fixed in
upstream linux.
