The packages work as intended in both kdump & fadump modes.
Couple of observations though:
1. When doing load/unload twice in succession, echo throws an error

The fix was added to the v3.19-rc6 kernel as the following commit:
4369a69 drm/radeon: add a dpm quirk list
It was also cc'd to stable, so it will make it's way into the upstream
3.16 and other stable kernels.

In the meantime, I decided 14.04 was unusable.for me.
So I've done a fresh install of Vivid (15.04-to-be) daily version. That has
linux kernel 3.18, right? In one hour of usage, I've not seen the error message
in dmesg.

I have the same symptoms only _after_ upgrading to 3.13.0-44-generic.
Can you test an earlier kernel version and see if the problem goes away?
