command but unfortunately it failed and now I don't have a working
installation anymore. I could reinstall the old version of Lubuntu and
the run `apport-collect' but currently I don't have access to the
computer in question.

Currently on 14.04 LTS 64-bit and the camera is still extremely dark.
I've tried multiple applications to try and use it and no luck. I also
have two identical Lenovo Z570's and they have the same issue. Nothing
else has changed. Is there any solution to this?

Thanks Christopher, in the meanwhile I reinstalled Ubuntu 13.10 and tested a
few kernel versions.
The problem appeared upstream starting from kernel version 3.12.x onward.
So I reinstalled again 14.04 and I downgraded to kernel version
v3.11.10.13-saucy, which is not affected by this bug-
