I noticed similar problem. Kernel version > 5.0.13-48 crashes when
Lenovo Thunderbolt version 4 is connected. It doesn't happen with
version 3.

So your system did not come with the oem kernel installed? Stick to the
distro kernel then, you should have hwe-5.13 backport from 21.10.

I tried booting with an older kernel (5.11.0-27-generic) which was
installed on my system previously when I did not see this issue and it
did not work. Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

So you're saying it's a regression due to a kernel upgrade? Do you have
older oem kernels still installed to boot with to verify if they still
work?
The bug seems to be in the ethernet driver (igc).
