In the meantime, I can no longer get any usb keyboard or mouse to be
recognized. It worked fine, then the next day, there seems to be no way to
boot.
As the machine is dual boot with WIN10, I can still use it that way, but I
don't know how to debug this ... I am now trying various combinations of

I was running XUbuntu 15.10, and it occurred. I then decided to update to
16.04 with the hope of fixing things, but that did not help.

prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
