For unknown reasons I couldnt boot natty from the usb pendrive i was using to
boot for 10.04 too.
So I tried to install again a new 12.04 amd 64 and it works out: I can
shutdown/reboot.
What can I do that could help to make any deep comparison of my new system
state with the information we have

After testing on version 10.04, the bug does not exist anymore.

I updated to latest mainline kernel, nothing changed on shutdown/restart
behavior...
During installation, only warning showed up about a firmware:
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168g-3.fw for module
r8169

So I've updated the bios, nothing new, it hangs on the splash screen
I've attached what I see on tty1 when it's frozen, if it can help...
Result of the command of "sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
