Don't know, I've not tied it, and the author had this to say:
A possible fix might look like the following (however, this is only my
testing hot-fix to make the driver work and I have to admit that I do
not fully understand the whole thing - that's why I am not posting a

The relevant part of syslog looked like this:

messages in syslog after a complete freeze. Searching for this error
only found one reference https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/6/12/504.

Oh dear, how many bug reports do we need?
Christopher, you are being a real PITA with constant canned copy/paste

Bug confirmed in Trusty - current kernel 3.13.0-24-generic. The ss_en=0
option doesn't seem to work any more. Blacklisting the module is the
only thing to do for now.

I may (or may not) do more testing at my own leisure, and others
affected are welcome to contribute. That said, it's pretty clear by now,
that doing more testing doesn't help anyone.

Unfortunately, despite the fixes, it doesn't work very well at all. If you have
time to wait a couple of more years, may be the driver will get there, and may
be not.
Meanwhile, Realtek has an updated driver for us, good for kernel 3.9:
