another note, just upgraded to latest kernel and the error is back...

confirmed on eoan (5.3.0-42) after heynnema comments above, that the
decoding fail message disappears switching gzip then back to lz4.
editing initramfs.conf and running the command below:
~ $ sudo update-initramfs -c -k all
The result:
~ $ sudo cat /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf | grep l
I am having this same issue and I do run Docker Compose, but not with
any name-servers set explicitly. I just downgraded to 4.15.0-58 to see
if that stabilizes things.

No, I have not tested any upstream patches. Looking at those kernel
bugs, I am not even sure how to get my hands on a patched kernel.

When I connect the usb hub built into my monitor
(http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/LS27D85KTSN/XU), the system
will reboot instead of shutting down when I do a shut down. If I disable
XCHI in the BIOS, the problem does not happen. If I disconnect the hub
and enable XHCI
