Regarding the nvidia fan (right side of the case), it doesn't spin fast
for me either. I tried to get the fan controls in nvidia-settings

and adding the -D option to DAEMON_ARGS on /etc/default/thinkfan
("dangerous mode", a bit scary!) to force thinkfan to swallow the non-
