The Panasonic Toughbook CF-T8 4 can not boot (kernel panics) with
5.4.0-80-generic on Lubuntu 20.04. However, it works perfectly with
5.4.0-53-generic. I will try with current HWE kernel and let you know.

For the record, I had exactly the same issue with an Asus X550MD.
Fortunately, the new HWE kernel (5.0.0) in 18.04 works properly.
I will have this Asus X550MD until the 11 of October at least: if you

I tested with 4.15.0-56: install of linux-headers-4.15.0-56-generic
fails because it misses libssl1.1, but grub list this version so I could
try to boot on it and it fails the same way.
I could not test with 4.15.0-57 because your first link is wrong (and I

without error before reporting. I understand that 4.15 is old, but I
supposed that there is the same issue on Ubuntu Xenial (you are right, I
should have test it, and I will try to do it).

You are right to clarify.
My concern is that this problem appears "randomly" for each kernel
version, even on minor updates on 14.04 kernel (has I said at the
beginning), so I wanted to give a global vision of the problem.
The link to the SRU procedure is very interesting, but :
