Seems the fix was not accepted/applied. Just tried latest 18.04, 19.04
and finally 19.10 with kernel 5.3.0-26-generic #28-Ubuntu

Retried with recent instructions from mrgromov in post
https://github.com/kuba-moo/mt7601u/issues/64 and got it to work.
Would it be possible to create a fix or is this particular device buggy?

Tried kernel 4.13.10 to no avail. Seems my adapter is slightly
different. It does not show up as disk. Instead it is recognized as WLAN
device immediately. Error msg is also different. Pls see attached file
dmesg_kernel_4.13.10 and let me know if you need more information or
want my to test further
