I've now been successfully running upstream kernel for quite a few days
and haven't had a single lockup, which suggests that the problem is not
exhibited by the upstream kernel.

My machine is locking up a few times a day. These lockups seem to be
graphics-related -- they often occur when opening a new tab in Chromium
or a new window or Unity indicator menu shows on the screen -- but are
not universally so. Sometimes the machine will lock up of its own
