At this stage I have to give up using Firefox, as it seems that whatever

displaying a Stackoverflow.com page and another time while a Google search page
was being dynamically updated (while typing in the search field).

package updates? Synaptic does not let me force the meta-packages to the
previous version, and simply removing the kernel headers and image
sounds scary...
