Thanks for the hint, Christopher! Unfortunately, I set up this machine
for some relatives of mine, so I don't have access to it any more.
However I installed Teamviewer for urgent cases, so if they should
encounter any problems and I can get access to it, I will use the

I encountered this problem on an HP Compaq CQ58-d69sg right now. The
kernel option acpi_backlight=vender fully solved the problem (backlight
control with the keyboard also works properly).

I will do some testing asap, for now I can tell following: The problem
still occurs in Xubuntu 12.10. But now the password is not being asked
neither on lid close nor on manual suspend. This might be a thing of
different configuration though.
