I'd like the second the suggestion that s2idle sleep not be used at
least on this model until the power usage issues have been worked out.
It wasn't easy to figure out what the problem was and the battery drain
will significantly reduce the lifespan of the laptop for users that
don't know to change
I'm running 16.04 and seeing the same problem on Linux 4.15.0-45. I can
also confirm that when booting with 4.15.0-43 I no longer see the

This has expired, but affects me too here.
I'm specifically using Proxmox, which uses Ubuntu for upstream kernel -
currently at 4.15.18, and I see the same symptoms.
Specifically LXC, specifically at stop and specifically kworker using 100% of
one core and preventing startup of other containers.
Unconfirmed.
The above terminal commands have fixed the issue. Please close this BUG report.
Many thanks for the help.

Public bug reported:
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS

linux-image-3.13.0-49-generic version 3.13.0-49.83

and then approximately
On the Dell XPS 13, kernel linux-image-3.16.7-031607 still has the bug.
(To reproduce, I just close the lid and open it again. If the bug hits,
the image never comes back and I have to kill X)

Also seeing this problem on a Dell XPS 13. Newest mainline kernel
(3.19-rc2) also fixes the issue. I'll test the 3.13 kernel next

Christopher, thanks for taking the time to respond. However, I have
since discovered the problem was related to an aging PSU.
This "bug" may be closed and marked as "not a bug".
Thanks.

@Mathias
I had the touchpad working with psmouse.proto=bare previously. If I add
i8042.noloop=1 psmouse.proto=bare then it works as a ps2 mouse while
registering as the focaltech device. :
dmesg is attached, snipped to the first few occurences of Failed to
enable mouse.
Output of init:
./init /d
A bit more digging into it.
./init /dev/serio_raw0 shows the device recognising all input fine for
all five fingers. It just seems unable to enable the device for use.
dmesg | egrep 'pnp | serio ' gives the following:
[0.272299] pnp 00:02: Plug and Play ACPI device, IDs PNP0b00 (active)
[
Ok, had a chance to test it.
Still getting this in dmesg:
psmouse serio1: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1
A check of /proc/cmdline shows the following:
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.7-focaltech+ root=UUID=b1278c0a-a88a-
43a0-96a6-220f674cee7a ro quiet splash i8042.noloop=1 acpi_osi=

Looks like I couldn't see the wood for the trees on that one.
thanks @pilot6, will give it a go

Title:
Touchpad detected as mouse
Hey. Just on an aside with the X550LN with the deb files installed the
touchpad is now recognised, but I'm facing the psmouse serio4: Failed to
enable mouse on isa0060/serio4 error.
Tried applying the i8042.loop=1 option with no joy.
