I found a solution!
It seems to have been as simple as delete purge xserver-xorg and then reinstall
xserver-xorg
This fixed the issue for me.
However, in the meantime I also manually updated my linux headers to the latest
version (for wiley) because they would not update correctly by just doing
I confirm this bug. It affects me as well: just upgraded from 14.04 to 15.04
and then 15.10. In both new versions the touchpad is not working.
NOTE: the buttons DO work, but the tracking of the cursor doesn't.
Also, the workaround mentioned above doesn't work for me, however a slightly
