Several amd64 devices have shown an marked increase in failures to
complete automated testing with this kernel snap that is currently on
18/beta channel.

After install of the 5.10.0-14-generic kernel certain audio channels
from the Realtek sound card and USB devices are unavailable (Realtek
Rear Output, USB webcam input).
Reverting to the 5.8.0-36-generic
With the workaround from the bug in comment #9 I am no longer
experiencing freezes.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of what policy was for firmware.
As far as I can tell this firmware is all non-free, for example it
appears to come from this repo https://github.com/RPi-Distro/firmware-
nonfree and be in a non-free package in debian:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-br

The firmware identified is used on Raspberry Pi devices that are
reference devices for Ubuntu Core. The firmware currently carried in
Bionic is quite old:

Since upgrading to disco I have started having regular freezes of my
laptop. There is no response to key presses, mouse movement etc. Only
recourse is to reset the system.
