Upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 using 'do-release-upgrade -d' results in:

Possibly a reproduction but in this case Xenial is deployed and rsyslog
shows the kernel upgraded to 4.4.0-119-generic. These are automated runs
and we don't have the console output to confirm a kernel panic.

This bug certainly needs to be treated as urgent. It's being tracked as
part of the critical SLA process and blocks deployments of foundation
bundles in the QA lab and in the field.
