I had run
sudo apt-get update
followed by
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This seems to happen in one form or another periodically.
The fix is to run
sudo apt-get -f install
until it doesn't fail. Sometimes once, in
Given that installing the linux-generic package fixed the issue, I'm not
certain how important it is now. I am quite willing to provide more
information, and/or change to different kernels to help resolve this.
In the meantime, I'm now able to use the latest kernel.
I'm not exactly certain why I
I should have said 4.8.0-39Generic

Title:
Ubuntu 16.10 kernel 4.8.0-39 No network connectivity
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
After doing the above I did a little more reading, and decided to try
the generic kernel. I installed it by executing:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic
That fixed my networking problems, and I am now able to use the newest
kernel: 4.8.0-39

I was able to run the report while running the older kernel that allows
network connectivity. I'm not certain that it will provide the
information you need when the issue is not present, but I can try and
provide the same information in the 4.8.0-39 kernel if you require that.

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
There were error messages generated stating that there was an unmet dependency,
so after investigating the dependency, I ran the following:
