VLC also fails to video capture from this camera.
I read a couple v4l2 suggested diagnostics:

the laptop.

On resume, networking was disabled and I could not reenable it. There
are warnings in the kernel log that are concerning. Networking used to
be stable on resume. This kernel or perhaps a previous one seems to
have made it less so.
