Is there any issue with removing the intel-microcode package with the
-38 kernel? The intel-microcode package does not seem to get installed
on a fresh 16.04.4 system and the Spectre/Meltdown checker referenced
earlier shows no vulnerability as the mitigation is all done in the
kernel.

Well, after dealing with this a little I remembered that mceusb was in
the blacklist to get reading Smart Cards with this device. So, the
module has nothing to do with USB keys or SD cards. In fact, now I can
safely re-enable it without losing Smart Card functionalities.

Tested the latest kernel available and the original problem still
persists. Do you want me to test it again without mceusb in the
blacklisted modules? This way we would know if the reader is now being
properly recognized.
