Intel (Packard Bell with ECS MCP73VT-PM motherboard, Intel E2200 CPU)
Just to let you know that I have axactly the same problem and symptoms
(freeze with pattern of horizontal bars appearing on the screen) than
Greg Supina., on two very different computers (One Intel and one AMD).
Ubuntu 13.4 fresh installs, less than one month ago.
