This has followed me through numerous Kernels and linux versions on this
hardware. iwlwifi seems to be implicated. Also have udev/usb input

I have a similar problem with a lenovo x230 recently upgraded from 13.10
to 14.04 and lost backlight control both with hot keys and using gnome
settings (this is ubuntu GNOME). Fix in the x11 conf doesn't work for
me. I have two entries in my /sys/class/backlight
intel_backlight and thinkad_screen
