wayland. I cannot try out wayland due to this since I will end up losing

Your patch added an extra requirement to get sound, i.e. that the
Headphone volume has to be raised in order to get sound from speakers.
It is not only counter-intuitive but also works against how PA operates
in general. PA does not raise Headphone volume unless headphones are
actually plugged in.
SO bettr to keep how it is, and use a PA config patch that is manually
applied.

When using a stock kernel and stock PA/Alsa configurations, the volume
controls end up raising Master only without also raising PCM as PA
thinks that PCM and Master are merged. This codec does not require
raising Headphone volume for speakers, it only requires it when actually
using headphones. The

The weird hang may not be related to the iwlwifi module after all. When
running the vanilla 4.13.5 kernel from the mainline builds done at
canonical I can observe normal shutdowns. The wifi related message is
still there but the machine turns off normally!

I will run the command. Do note that this will be done using the 4.4
kernel, not the 4.8 kernel which I could not boot as stated in the bug
report.

I have just upgraded to 16.10 and restarted my machine. The new 4.8 kernel
seemed to take ages to boot and appears to have hanged. I have managed to boot
the system with the older 4.4 kernels from 16.04 just fine without any problems

Apparently some users had troubles with the driver and updated their
firmware which may be changing+saving certain settings on the chipset of
the wireless NIC. Can teh firmware manintainers see if they are updated
firmware files tha
Also when the freeze occurs, teh keyboard and mouse are useless i.e. no
screenshotting possible.
