I am using KDE Neon 20.04. During earlier attempts to debug the issue I

The fix identified by https://askubuntu.com/a/1307216/1168625 works
(tested on two workstations).
Quoting: The snd-intel-dspcfg module ... had been moved to the linux-
modules-extra- package. So I had to install that package, since it
hasn't been installed by default since 5.4.0-60.67
sudo apt in
On all three installations I can run the command "lspci -v | grep snd".
As far as can tell this update does not have the sound modules as part
of its kernel.

This issue has also been reported on reddit. Also on

In my testing I performed the usual steps to get pulse audio working
which failed. The issue happens when upgrading from
config-5.8.0-34-generi
I can confirm this issue on both a Dell 3610 and an Asus P9X79WS.
Apport will not generate a report. It reports:
