For some reason, you still have Nvidia 550 driver installed, and that is
causing the error.
In Ubuntu 25.04, Nvidia 550 is a transitional package to newer versions.
I would purge out anything related to 550.xx driver and install 570 or
570-open driver.

sudo dpkg --configure
It may help to compare alsa info between working and non-working kernel.
"Broken" could be anything from you not hearing sound to no device in
pipewire/pavucontrol, no device in aplay, or the kernel module not
loading.

The login screen issue is bug 1760849. The login screen runs as a
different user (gdm) so it has its own monitor configuration. You can
overwrite that as root by copying ~/.config/monitors.xml to
~gdm/.config/monitors.xml

cause of this bug was already identified and fixed. Also, from reading your
report, you do not have the same style of audio glitches people complained
about here (constant crackling).

It looks like the package will need a few patches to support kernel 6.14.x
(looking at Debian unstable for reference).
While 6.14.x is not officially supported on Ubuntu 24.04 at the moment, it
should be the next HWE kernel, coming in August.

Thanks. It seems the kernel itself can't see any external monitor
connected. It's also interesting the Nvidia card isn't reporting any
display connectors exist. This makes me wonder if the Thunderbolt port
is wired to Nvidia instead of Intel. Can you configure that in the BIOS?

It sounds like a problem with PSR (panel self refresh). To test that
theory try disabling PSR by adding a kernel parameter:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i915.enable_psr=0"
in /etc/default/grub and then run:
