This bug existed as of 13.04 for sure. 12.10, not sure, but I can't
install that on my laptop as it's a production laptop with work on it.
What else can we do to move towards a solution for this bug??

I installed 3.12. It's odd, just after installing 3.12 but still booting
into 3.8, I can't replicate the problem. Yet. I'll keep trying, will
report back in a couple days.

Just to double check, because I'm on a machine that I rely on for work:
I can grab the packages here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc2-saucy/
And after installing them with dpkg, I can always choose to boot on the
regular 3.8.0 kernel, correct?

Yes, thank you. Please keep this ticket active. It *IS* an issue and is
quite annoying, as every time I have to shut down my laptop, I have to

This affects me as well. ThinkPad S431, using UEFI (not legacy boot). I
don't need to put the machine in suspend though. I can just shut down
Ubuntu, and the computer turns off then turns back on again. So I reboot
into the BIOS and hit the power button to turn the laptop off. Once
