Running 12.04 and updated MB to Gigabyte Z97P-D3 and I got crackling sound issue, first thought it were my sound system. echo "options snd-hda-intel snoop=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/fix-sound-intel97 (done as root, of course) cured this issue after reboot. vid option is not working (at least on 12.04)
