Many years later, I can confirm the same problem still exists! Fresh install of Kubuntu 23.04 with the 14e4:4311 wireless chip, the KDE driver manager suggests installing bcmwl-kernel-source which does not work. Proper suggestion should be as above, firmware-b43-installer, which works perfectly. I
